Lament After Sunday Funeral

Aidan Chan '26
You don’t move on after loss
you move with it

Shake hands with grief,
welcome her in, she’s here to stay
Pull her a chair at the table—
offer her comfort for free
She is not the monster you first thought her to be

When she asks defeat of you
and forces your detriment
Remember why you let her in

She will walk with you now,
stay with you peacefully, or surge to the forefront

You will feel her weight at times; perceive it as weakness
But do not forget why you offered her a seat

And in days when despair is blossoming
And sadness is billowing

Remember why she came
Remember who she represents
For she is love

Grief came to you, only because love came first
