The Prize

Emily Dinescu '29
Dedicated to Malala Yousafzai

From mountain schools, where bullets rang,

A girl stood firm, through danger sang.

Books in hand, and eyes so wide,

She faced the dark, she did not hide.

A child of hope, a courage then rare,

Stood tall for rights, no one else would dare.

They aimed to silence her with fear,

But her brave voice rang clear.

A bullet struck near her eye,

Yet still she saw the truth, the lie.

A Nobel prize she won for voices long unheard,

For every girl who dared not say a word.

Malala spoke, and the silence broke,

Hope was lit in every cloak.

She showed the world that a child can lead,

Even when armed with nothing but the need.
