A Notch in My Heart

Ashley Deng '27
 Adrenaline rushes like the Shenandoah.
Uncontrollably,
Like waves crashing on the shore.

A hug,
A kiss,
A touch of the hand.
Each gesture laden with unspoken meaning.

Yet,
Trapped in a box of solitude,
Echoes of loneliness reverberate,
A hollow ache etched in my heart.

What am I missing?

You.
You complete me.

You’re the rush of a storm,
The lightning.
Like a spark that ignites me.
Something raw,
Something untamed.

But
You’re not chaos.

You’re the tether that pulls me back
When I’m about to break.
The arms that hold me
When I’m about to fall.
